Life Lessons from Old Wizens: Staying Grounded in Time

History in the past, through different cultures, has given the chance to observe time go by. “Kairos,” in ancient Greek, signifies the right or opportune moment, being completely present, as well as taking action at the proper time; thus, as opposed to “Chronos,” which is chronological passing time. Today, many people focus more on Chronos in everyday life. These are absorbed with schedules and pressing deadlines, while precious moments of Kairos sail right by: joyous ones, reflective ones, or even just opportunity ones.

Similarly, philosophies of the East and Buddhism teach that everything is impermanent, in a constant state of becoming, or change. Here, time may be fought, but more importantly one is supposed to allow it to flow if they cannot stop it; no one can. The teaching is embracing the fleeting nature of life as appreciated in the present moment so moving into inner peace and happiness.
