Time Travel: The Reverse Fantasy of Time Stopped
Whereas the idea of frozen time holds some enchantment, so does its opposite-time travel. Where stopping time puts all things into a gridlock, traveling through time promises to change events, relive pleasant memories, and catch a glimpse of what is yet to come. Stories of time travel tap into the same human yearning: the need to control time and, in some small way, escape it.
But just as time can be stopped, traveling back in time generates many paradoxes. If you traveled back in time and changed something, would the present even be here as you have known it? Perhaps changing the past created another timeline that also exists in a fashion? These questions suggest the passing of time or stopping time is more than what is set forth in the premise.
