Passing Down the Torch
Years from now, I’ll be able to do that with my own children. We’ll sit there tracing along the lines of the old map, still talking about adventure their great-grandfather had under his belt and relating some of the dreams they’ll chase one day. Just as the discovery in the basement has reunited my father and me, I hope these stories bring the many generations together-one reminder that our lives are just another part of that larger tapestry woven by those who came before us.
I will tell them that life does not lie in waiting for treasures buried in the past but in making good use of what we have at hand. I will show them the magic of a simple walk through the woods, sometimes greater than the most exotic destination. And maybe someday they themselves, in some hidden corner of this earth that had gone uncharted until now, will add some new magic by marking new places and linking stories, carrying forward the spirit of adventure ignited in all of us by my grandfather.
